Everyone has had that one job they could not stand. Maybe it was the customers who could never comprehend a simple coupon. Maybe it was your lazy employer. At some point, you may very well be ready to blow. Yet all you can do is contemplate vengeful dialogue you will never partake in because it involves calling your boss a [insert obscene word here]. The only thing keeping a particular finger out of his face is the paycheck he hands you biweekly.

Of course, not many people are actually ignorant enough to trash-talk their job at their actual workplace. Instead, they do it on their ever-so-private social media platforms. And Vine’s a popular way to vent. How do I know that?

Because it’s not really private.

Look up hashtags like #hatework, #bored, and #work, and you’ll find yourself lost in a sea of 6 second clips mostly dissing their job … while on the job. According to an article written in The Wall Street Journal by Jacob Gershman titled “The Latest Social Media Concern for Employers,” a Vine user was smoking from a bong while wearing a shirt that represented his workplace. Little do they know that employers are looking up what their employees are up to online.

Like on any social media platform, caution is absolutely critical. Dissing your job online is extremely unflattering to begin with. It’s the indirect way of flipping off your boss. Doing so could be the very reason you end up out of a job. If you have an issue, the mature thing to do is file a formal complaint, not post how much you hate your job on Vine.
